Full Time (M-F) Warehouse Person Wanted… And The Weak Need Not Apply!
You might think this an odd way to begin a “Help Wanted” ad. And we’ll get to the good stuff in a moment…
But I want to tell you all the “bad” things about this position, first, because that will scare away the weak, the lazy, those with no ambition, no “higher aspirations”.
The position … has its challenges. (I said the money is GOOD … not “easy”.) But for that special person who’s up to the task … the opportunities here are almost endless.
Let’s look at some of those challenges.
First up … you’re lifting boxes of nuts and bolts and other fasteners most of the day – most of them weighing around forty pounds but sometimes running as high as seventy. That can make it mighty hot and sweaty in the summer! And cold and clanky in the winter.
You’re standing and walking and working on a concrete floor all day … in a 4,500 square foot warehouse … most of the time, alone. And that warehouse can seem very big when you can’t find a part! You’ve gotta be able to find your way around.
This isn’t one of those jobs where you perform a single task, and then stand in the corner until you’re needed again. Here, you could go from sweeping the warehouse to counting out a parts order … followed by making up kits and quality inspecting incoming parts while receiving, and driving a forklift! (Don’t worry if you don’t know how to do this yet – we can teach you.)
Oh, and you could even be cutting grass in the summer, and shovelling snow in the winter.
There’s a fair bit of responsibility to this position – you have to insure that product is accurately inspected (can you read prints?), received, shipped to customers, and/or stocked in inventory … as well as guaranteeing that on-hand inventory is accurately reflected in the computer system.
There’s quite a lot to learn and be thinking about too, like payment terms, shipping terms and methods, labeling requirements, invoicing – not to mention learning all about metal fasteners like sizes, types, head markings, specifications, and materials! You need to ALWAYS be paying attention. (In fact, I’d say this job is all about those details even during the 70% lugging the boxes of bolts, and performing other physical labor.)
There are the “picky” customers with VERY specific packing and labeling requirements that make you wonder, “Does it REALLY matter whether the label is 1-1/4 inches from the upper right hand corner of the box, instead of 1 inch?” (The answer, of course, is yes – it matters to them, so it matters to us.)
You ARE held personally accountable for the job you do here. There’s no one to blame when a mistake is made. (See also “Praise” below.)
Oh! And there’s our rather fussy and unforgiving computer system – you may never learn to love it but you WILL learn to deal with it.
Okay. That might not be a complete list … but I’d say that’s the worst of it.
So, yeah – you need physical strength and endurance … you need computer skills and decision-making skills … you’re in charge of QC, receiving, filling, shipping, and invoicing orders … and you’ve got to be comfortable around machinery.
Skills, we can give you. Attitude – the RIGHT kind – you have to bring, yourself.
If none of the above has put you off to the point of being a deal-breaker, if you figure you can take the above “hardships” in stride as a fair trade for the perks listed below … then you’re probably just the sort of person we’re looking for.
So now let me tell you some of the things you WILL enjoy about working here:
First of all, you and your work truly matter – to everyone in the company! I mean that sincerely. And you’re bound to pick up on this spirit of valuing every individual the very first time you visit us.
What you do is critical to making and keeping customers happy.
Our in-house commitment to your education is among the best in the industry. You’ll get all this:
- Parts Training
- Computer Training

. . . with the exception of a few books you can borrow, to read at home. That means you get paid to learn most of what you need to know here.
And you get to learn the entire business from the ground floor, right on up, too. So long as you want to keep learning, we’ll keep training you!
Let me mention again that you are held personally accountable for the job you do here. That means you get all the credit for a job done well, and objectives met. (In other words, when you’ve earned the praise, it’s all yours! No one else gets to share your spotlight.)
In a nutshell then … Wink is a unique place to work, with great opportunities for continual learners. We train you on EVERYTHING – the parts, the finicky computer system, how the business works, financials (through open book management and games around the numbers), and more. And there are sweet bonuses too, based on company performance.
Look, we’re a small, closely-knit company of sincere, caring people. When you join our workplace … you join our family, and earn a place in our hearts.
